| ADAC Test 2011: 50 Car Parks in large Cities in Germany |
ADAC Car Park Test 2011: For the 2nd time GIVT had carried out the nationwide car park test on behalf of the ADAC (German Automobile Association). Once again 50 car parks in several big cities were tested. Results are in general similar to the test in 2010, but a tendency to more quality among the operators can be stated. Main obstacle stay the constructional conditions of the parking building.

| 5th Colloquium Transport Constructions / Multi-storey Car Parks |
At the 5th Colloquium Transport Constructions / Multi-storey Car Parks at the Technical Academy in Esslingen on 24th /25th January 2012, Dr. Irmscher holds a lecture on "Automated Parking Systems: Interesting Current Projects and Plans". From its own activities as an expert and planner he will present some interesting new projects. This includes, inter alia, a feasibility study for an automated car park with approximately 1800 parking spaces for a major international airport in the benchmark to a car park in pre-cast system in the same cubature with approximately 890 parking spaces, a traffic and technical concept for the project Mediaspace in Arhus (DK) and the integration of automated parking systems in deep shafts for towers in Abu Dhabi (UAE). Moreover, briefly some other projects will be shown, which are of general interest, so in Istanbul (TR).

Contribution in Euro-Parking 04/2011
As light as necessary … as light as possible is unnecessary |
In a contribution to the 04/2011 Euro-Parking, GIVT's managing director, Dr. Irmscher, explains the new procedures for the measurement of the lighting of the ADAC, which applies in certifications for "user-friendly multi-storey car parks" since their revision 2011. GIVT mbH has contributed to the development of this measurement method. As a consequence there will be achieved a more objective measurement of the illuminances.
Lighting in parking garages is a highly complex task in view of the relatively low room height and in relation to this great length and breadth of the parking levels. DIN EN 12464-1 as the relevant (however not yet introduced and as a result not legally binding) standard contains detailed regulations for planning the lighting system and checking the lighting intensities in a large matrix of measuring points. A simplified procedure is used for the ADAC certification, which determines and evaluates selected measuring values, relevant for userfriendliness. By contrast with DIN EN, various simplifications have been made. These consist in a reduction of the number of measuring points and in the measuring height, similar to the procedure in the European Parking Standard Award, not on the traffic surface, but instead at a height of one metre. As a result, the ADAC requires effectively
lower lighting intensities than according to DIN EN, especially on the parking levels, which is in the interests of energy saving. Thus those who plan according to DIN EN definitely also meet the ADAC requirements.

| Construction and Design Manual Parking Structures |
The Berlin architectural publishing house DOM publishers, which has established a reputation with profound and high-quality literature on architecture and design, will be publishing in spring 2012 for its series "manual and planning aid…" a two-volume reference and architectural book on parking buildings.
The authors of the technical part, containing a comprehensive systematology and numerous detailed references from their longstanding practical experience in planning and expertise of the GIVT mbH, will be Dr. Ilja Irmscher in collaboration with Mr. Ivan Kosarev. Therewith the planning of parking buildings will be derived on the basis of the respective vehicle dimensions, which are relevant for the specific construction project. A design canon is therefore conveyed, which will be applicable on the basis of the EAR 05 in connection with the FGSV-reference vehicle automobiles, as well as for smaller and larger vehicles and therefore applicable all over the world.
The elaborate collection of examples follow the content system and are to give concrete suggestions for the challenge of prevailing within the limits of architectural demands for uniqueness and the functionality and user-friendliness of traffic infrastructures. The examples will be commented on by Mrs. Angela Schiefenhövel (also GIVT mbH).
The book will be released in German and English versions.

| 2nd International Symposium on Parking Policies and Operation in Istanbul |
Contemporaneous to the INTERTRAFFIC ISTANBUL end of May took place at the 2nd International Symposium on Parking Policies and Operation under the patronage of the ISPARK. The ISPARK operates the public parking area and car parks of Istanbul and develops new locations. ISPARK since 2005 successfully implemented a service orientated urban parking space management and policy. Participants of the multi-storey car park symposium were amongst others EPA President Nick Lester as well as GIVT GmbH Managing director Dr. Ilja Irmscher, who give a lecture on "Automated Parking - Everything is possible?", which highlighted the potentials and borders of automated parking systems.
Study tour through İSPARK multi-storey car parks
Following the symposium different ISPARK multi-storey car parks were visited under the direction of ISPARK General Manager Kadir Gurbetci. Particularly the multi-storey car park in Cihangir, were different social facilities like e.g. a children's playground, an art museum and art studios are located, aroused pretty interest.

| ADAC Test Report Car Parks 2010 (ADAC-Test Parkhäuser 2010) |
GIVT GmbH accomplished on behalf the General German Automobile Association ADAC the "ADAC Test Report Car Parks 2010. It was the first nationwide test of 50 public inner city car parks in 10 large cities, where safety, functionality, user friendliness and tariffs were tested according to ADAC requirements. Extensive data and facts were collected, evaluated and transferred to the ADAC in a full report. For each individual object a check list with 140 positions was provided and special impressions were arranged in each case in an illustrated short review. For a deeper expertise of the building structure an expert office was consulted.

| 3rd Middle East Parking Symposium in Abu Dhabi |
| The Middle East Parking Symposium in Abu Dhabi took place from 10th - 12th of October 2010 and was once again a crucial forum for the parking industry in the Middle East and a place for exchanging experiences and ideas. We want to thank all customers and partners for visiting us at the Herrenknecht booth, where the GIVT presented itself as independent planning office.
Moreover the U-Park® system was showed, which GIVT is offering on behalf of Herrenknecht, including the building technology and transfer cabin. This automated parking system can be installed environment-friendly in shafts up to 70 m deep with an internal diameter of just 11 m (ring foundation diameter ca. 16 m), thereby implementing up to 90 car parking spaces in one shaft.
On the conference stream GIVT CEO Dr. Ilja Irmscher gave a lecture on the topic "Automated Parking - What you are told and what you actually get" and presented recent trends in automatic parking and a critical review of commonly made assumptions. Please don't hesitate to contact us, in case you are interested in the presentation.

| Automated parking systems & robotic parking systems |
| In the USA and in Middle East the terms “Automated parking systems” and “Robotic parking systems” are used. We believe that both terms mean the same thing. Automated and robotic parking systems are characterized by a complete parking procedure between a transfer area for running-in and a transfer cabin for running-out, and will be handled automatically by conveyor systems.
The opinion that robotic parking systems are automated parking system with an additional fuzzy logic, is comprehensible in a theoretical view. The fundamental precondition for such robotic parking systems are solid automated parking systems. Therefore the planners and manufacturers need a lot of experience!
